Andrew
Braddock:
Andrew
Braddock was Head of Access & Mobility at Transport for London
[TfL] until August 2002, having been responsible for London Transport’s
Unit for Disabled Passengers since January 1991.
He has subsequently been seconded to Transdev Plc as Project
Manager for the South Hampshire tram scheme and has worked on bus design
and infrastructure development issues for TfL’s Surface Transport
Directorate.
Prior
to 1991 Andrew Braddock was Director & General Manager of “The Bee
Line” – a bus company operating throughout Berkshire and into the
adjoining counties. He was
involved in road passenger transport operation from 1968, holding a
variety of management appointments with the Bristol, London Country and
Alder Valley bus companies. His
early career was in the surveying profession as a trainee with British
Rail and then with London Transport between 1965 and 1968.
After
joining the Bristol Omnibus Company just prior to the formation, on 1
January 1969, of NBC (the state-owned National Bus Company), Andrew
Braddock spent a period as Assistant Divisional Traffic Superintendent in
Bristol and then as Personal Assistant to NBC’s South Wales and West
Regional Chairman. In 1973 he
was appointed District Superintendent in charge of the Bristol Company’s
Swindon operations.
From
1976 to 1979 he was Area Manager (South) at London Country Bus Services
and then Operations Manager for that Company before joining Alder Valley
as Traffic Manager in 1984.
In
the run-up to privatisation of all the NBC subsidiary companies, he was
appointed Assistant Manager of Alder Valley North in 1986, which became
“The Bee Line” a year later.
For
many years he has actively promoted access improvements to public
transport to benefit older and disabled people, and was responsible for
developing a number of initiatives to meet the needs of mobility-impaired
Londoners.
Andrew
Braddock takes a keen interest in the public transport policies of other
countries and has travelled extensively both professionally and
personally, describing himself as a European first and an Englishman
second! He is a Fellow of the
Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and the holder of a
Certificate of Professional Competence in National and International
Operations, issued by the UK Department of Transport.
He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the governing body of the UK Bus
Driver of the Year Competition.
From
October 2003, following early retirement at age 55 from Transport for
London, Andrew Braddock is establishing himself as an independent
transport consultant under the name A
B O U

Transport, and for About

– Overground – Underground
– Tram).
